Think global, buy local

In Switzerland, some of the big agencies that look very professional at first glance provide interpreters who are flown in from abroad. The agencies pay their interpreters a fraction of the customary fees. Interpreters who work at reduced rates often do not have a diploma and/or lack the required quality.

Always ask where your interpreters come from and whether they are certified – also in the interest of sustainability. Interpreters from abroad means taxpayers’ money leaving the country, less social insurance contributions, a burden on the environment due to air travel and, last but not least, interpreters working at your event who do not have the necessary knowledge of  the local economic, political and cultural specificities and terminology.
